It has been confirmed that in the past year, at least 600 hospital employees at UCH have left, according to Professor Abiodun Otegbayo, the chief medical director of Nigeria’s premier tertiary healthcare facility at University College Hospital (UCH).

On Monday, November 21, Otegbayo stated at a press conference commemorating the 65th Founder’s Day celebration of UCH in Ibadan. He stated that at least 15 nurses, doctors, and pharmacists among others leave UCH on a weekly basis.

According to him:- “Every week, I sign resignation letters for 15 health care providers at the organization, most of whom are clinicians, such as nurses, doctors, and pharmacists among others,” he said.

Otegbayo noted that no fewer than 600 clinical staff had left the hospital between 2020 and October 15, 2022, adding that bureaucracy bottlenecks had prevented their replacement.

Otegbayo said there was an acute shortage of manpower due to push and pull factors, such as poor welfare of workers and insecurity, among others. ~ NG News
