According to a court in Switzerland, the wealthiest family in Britain has been accused of prioritizing their pet dog’s expenses over the wages of one of their employees.

The worker, who served the Hinduja family, allegedly received a meager payment of just seven Swiss francs (£6.19) for working excessively long hours, up to 18 hours a day, seven days a week.

Bloomberg reported that Prosecutor Yves Bertossa referred to a budget document titled “Pets,” which revealed that the family spent 8,584 Swiss francs in a year solely on their dog.

Bertossa emphasized, “They spent more on their dog than on one of their employees.”

The Hinduja family, estimated to have a net worth of £37 billion, is now facing charges of staff trafficking and exploitation at their Lake Geneva villa.

Prosecutors are seeking prison sentences of up to five-and-a-half years and a compensation amount of 3.5 million Swiss francs for the staff.

Additionally, they are demanding the family cover 1 million Swiss francs in court costs.

Allegedly, staff contracts did not specify working hours or days off, and employee passports were confiscated, restricting freedom of movement.

The lawsuit has been filed against four family members: Prakash Hinduja, Kamal Hinduja, Ajay Hinduja, and Namrata Hinduja.

The family’s legal representatives have refuted the allegations, presenting testimonies from workers who claimed to have been treated respectfully.

The lawyers argued that the salary should not be solely evaluated based on cash payments.

In addition, they contested the claim of 18-hour workdays, stating that activities such as watching a movie with the children should not be considered as work.

The Hinduja family, estimated to have a net worth of 37 billion euros, controls the multinational conglomerate, the Hinduja Group, which encompasses various businesses ranging from trucks and lubricants to banking and cable television.
