In the general elections coming up in 2023, Ohanaeze Ndigbo says they are committed to supporting Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
In a statement, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization emphasized that Obi remains the best candidate for the top office in the country, because he possesses the right attributes.
In response to a statement credited to the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Ohanaeze insisted that its endorsement of Obi was never in doubt, even as it urged NEF to see reasons to support him.
Alex Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze’s National Publicity Secretary, stated in a statement: “The Ohanaeze, led by Prof. George Obiozor, assures NEF, and indeed the entire country, that the Igbo are solidly behind Obi.
“Ohanaeze will not join issues with those who are opposed to the collective Igbo aspiration with the hope that, as in every ideology, more converts will key in when logs of wood in their eyes are cleared. The Ohanaeze support for Obi is not because he is an Igbo.
“What goes for Obi today is the awesome quality of service he rendered to his people as governor; and, of course, the humility, character, charm and intellectual acumen that define his public conduct.”
“As a governor, Obi was busy setting standards of good governance for posterity, while some myopic, timid and mundane governors were busy with unacceptable acquisition of wealth to the detriment or impoverishment of the masses that voted them into office.” ~ NG News
