In a dispute over burial funds, former Nigerian senate president Wayas’ corpse has been abandoned in London since 2021

The remains of late Senator Joseph Wayas who was President of Nigeria’s Senate in the Second Republic (1979-1983) have reportedly been abandoned in a London hospital in the United Kingdom.

Joseph Wayas who was born on May 21, 1941, in Basang, Obudu in Cross River State, reportedly died after spending months in a hospital in London.

Following the demise, the Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade, inaugurated a funeral committee immediately to plan for his burial.

The committee was chaired by two-time Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi.

According to Daily Trust, however, after over a year, the late Wayas has yet to be laid to rest as family sources said there were no funds to attend to the body because they could barely cope.
