The news as it trends. See some of the campaign videos below.

Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist and New York State Assembly member, is making waves in the New York City mayoral race.

He is especially popular among younger generations of New Yorkers.

According to recent polls, Mamdani is just two points behind former Governor Andrew Cuomo, signaling a tight race as the contest enters its final stretch.

His campaign focuses on affordability, including rent freezes and free public transportation, among other policies that primarily cater to minority communities in New York, resonating with voters frustrated by skyrocketing living costs.

Mamdani, born in Uganda, moved to New York as a child and has built a reputation as a progressive leader.

With endorsements from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, his campaign is gaining momentum.

Will he pull off an upset? Time will tell as the New York City mayoral race heats up.

The New York City mayoral election follows a ranked-choice voting system, meaning voters rank candidates in order of preference rather than selecting just one.

If no candidate wins more than 50% of first-choice votes, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and their supporters’ votes are reallocated to their next choice.

This process continues until only two candidates remain, and the candidate with the most votes wins.

The primary election for NYC mayor is scheduled for June 24, 2025. Early voting begins June 14 and runs through June 22.
