Panic erupted in East Melbourne on Friday when an arsonist set fire to the front doors of the East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation.
Around 20 worshippers observing the Jewish Sabbath were forced to flee through a back exit.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The fire, which damaged the entrance, was quickly extinguished. Authorities are investigating, though the incident has not been classified as terrorism.
The suspect remains at large. Community leaders are calling for solidarity and vigilance.
