Residents of Owerri, the capital of Imo State, are expressing their frustration over the persistent increase in fuel prices, which have now reached N1000 per liter according to NAN.
Many individuals were observed walking to their workplaces as commercial transportation services, particularly Keke buses, temporarily ceased operations in protest of the escalating fuel costs.
This situation follows a recent surge in fuel prices across the state, with rates climbing from N850 to between N900 and N1000 per litre as of Monday.
During peak hours, numerous commuters were seen walking along major roads, such as Owerri-Okigwe Road and Wetheral Road, due to the limited availability of commercial buses.
Local bus drivers have been forced to raise their fares in response to the soaring fuel prices, with residents indicating that the economic strain is impacting all sectors within the state.
