The USS Abraham Lincoln has successfully reached the Middle East, following directives from the US Secretary of Defense aimed at expediting its journey from the Indo-Pacific region.
This information was confirmed by a source familiar with the operation, as reported by Al Arabiya English.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s decision to deploy the Lincoln and its accompanying strike group is intended to replace the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, thereby ensuring a continued naval presence in the area.
The USS Theodore Roosevelt will remain in the region temporarily, resulting in the presence of two Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in the Middle East before it returns to the United States.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the Lincoln, which is outfitted with advanced F-35C and F/A-18 Block III fighter jets, entered its area of responsibility on Wednesday.
This strategic deployment occurs amidst heightened tensions, with the Pentagon preparing for various potential scenarios in light of threats from Iran and its affiliates in response to recent actions against key figures in Hamas and Hezbollah.
