Peter Nwachukwu, the spouse of the late Nigerian gospel artist Osinachi Nwachukwu, has received a death sentence by hanging for his involvement in culpable homicide.
Osinachi, renowned for her popular song Ekwueme, sadly passed away on April 8, 2022, after enduring years of alleged domestic violence.
The trial, which commenced in June 2022, uncovered disturbing accounts of marital abuse.
Nwachukwu was charged with 23 offenses, including spousal battery and child cruelty.
The couple had four children, whose testimonies played a crucial role in the proceedings.
Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme announced the ruling at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, representing a pivotal development in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against domestic violence.
This verdict, as observed in Nigeria, has reignited calls for stronger protections for victims of domestic abuse.
