The news as it trends.

María Paz Peñaloza Cabrera, a 31-year-old mother of two, tragically passed away after undergoing a failed cosmetic procedure in Queens, New York.

Initially, she had butt implants placed by an unidentified individual but later sought their removal due to complications or dissatisfaction.

Desperate for a solution, she turned to Felipe Hoyos-Foronda, an unlicensed individual posing as a surgeon, who advertised his services on social media platforms like TikTok.

The procedure took place at Hoyos-Foronda’s residence, where Peñaloza Cabrera suffered cardiac arrest after being injected with lidocaine, a commonly used local anesthetic in plastic surgery.

Tragically, the lidocaine toxicity led to her becoming brain-dead, and she was subsequently removed from life support.

Per media report, Hoyos-Foronda, who falsely promoted his services as legitimate on social media, lacked the necessary medical licensing to perform such procedures.

Following the incident, he attempted to flee to Colombia but was apprehended at JFK Airport.

He now faces charges of assault and unauthorized medical practice, with prosecutors reassessing these charges in light of Peñaloza Cabrera’s death.

This heartbreaking case has sparked calls for heightened awareness of the risks associated with unlicensed cosmetic surgeries.

Peñaloza Cabrera’s grieving family has emphasized the importance of verifying credentials and ensuring procedures are conducted in regulated medical facilities.

Experts interviewed for this report stress the necessity of verifying credentials and ensuring that procedures are conducted in accredited medical facilities.

Peñaloza Cabrera’s family, grieving her loss, reiterates the risks associated with unlicensed cosmetic surgeries promoted on social media.
