Paul Biya, the President of Cameroon, has been in power for an extensive period of 42 years and is reportedly preparing to seek re-election in the upcoming 2026 presidential election.
At the age of 93, Biya has held the presidency since 1982, following a seven-year tenure as Prime Minister from 1975 to 1982.
His intention to run for another term was revealed by Kennedy Wandera, the founder of the Foreign Press Association Africa, who referenced information from The EastAfrican.
The next presidential election in Cameroon is scheduled for 2025, and the report indicates that Biya has confirmed his candidacy despite his advanced age.
Should he secure victory and complete a new seven-year term, he would reach the age of 100 by 2032.
In addition, it has been reported that Biya has opted to postpone the elections until 2026, allowing him sufficient time to prepare for his campaign, as he continues to maintain a firm grip on power in the nation.
