This year’s event transcended the bounds of traditional celebration, transforming into a poignant tribute to Mohbad, whose posthumous win reflected the deep admiration and respect he commands among fans and industry leaders alike.

Mohbad, known by his full name Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, was a singer, songwriter, and rapper whose talent carved a unique space in the Nigerian music scene.

With his distinctive voice and street-inspired lyrics, he quickly rose to prominence, captivating audiences with tracks that resonated deeply with fans.

His untimely passing in September 2023 left a void in the music industry, yet his legacy continues to inspire and impact the lives of many.

At the 2025 Headies Awards, held on April 27 at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, Mohbad was celebrated with two prestigious accolades:

Best Street Music (Street-hop Artiste) of the Year and the Viewer’s Choice Award for his collaboration with Chike on the track ‘Egwu.’

The ceremony, which marked a significant return to Nigerian soil after two years in Atlanta, USA, became an emotional milestone as Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, alongside their young son, Liam, accepted the awards on his behalf.

Omowunmi’s heartfelt speech resonated deeply with the audience, evoking tears and reflecting the enduring impact of Mohbad’s artistry and legacy.
