The news as it trends.
Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has recently been granted bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
Following his arraignment on February 20, 2025, he pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause harm.
The charges stem from an incident where Portable and his associates allegedly assaulted town planners and police officers in Ogun State while they were executing their official duties at his bar, Odogwu2.
After being declared wanted, Portable voluntarily surrendered to the police. His bail was set at N2 million, requiring one surety of the same amount.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 5, 2025.
This case is significant as it involves a local Nigerian singer and a prominent public figure being held accountable for his actions in the pursuit of justice.
On February 5, 2025, Portable reportedly led a violent confrontation against officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, who were attempting to seal his bar due to the absence of approved permits and inadequate air space.
Although multiple officials were injured during the incident, they managed to escape.
Subsequently, Portable and nine of his associates were declared wanted and later arrested and charged with conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause harm.
As the case progresses, the upcoming trial on March 5, 2025, will be crucial in determining the legal ramifications for Portable and his associates.
Known for his contributions to the Nigerian music scene, particularly in afrobeats and street-hop, Portable gained fame with his hit single “ZaZoo Zehh,” featuring Olamide and Poco Lee.
However, his career has been marred by various controversies, including public disputes, allegations of infidelity with the king’s wife, and other legal challenges, with this recent incident being a notable example.
