Peter Obi Seen in Rome, Bids Farewell to Pope Francis.

Peter Obi, former Nigerian presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, was spotted at the burial of Pope Francis in Rome.

Pope Francis, who passed away at 88, was known for his humility and advocacy for the marginalized.

Obi joined global dignitaries at St. Peter’s Basilica to pay his respects, emphasizing the Pope’s legacy of ethical leadership and compassion.

Obi was seen alongside Francis Cardinal Arinze, a prominent Nigerian cleric and one of the most respected figures in the Roman Catholic Church.

Cardinal Arinze, born in 1932 in Eziowelle, Nigeria, has held various high-ranking positions within the Vatican, including Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

According to his biography, Cardinal Arinze has been a cardinal since 1985 and remains a towering figure in global religious leadership.

A devout Catholic and married father of two, Obi highlighted the importance of the Pope’s teachings in fostering social transformation on his X account. 

On his social media page, Obi reiterated that he was in Rome to appreciate what the Pope stood for.

He was seen in attendance with other dignitaries, representing Nigeria and its people as the world bid farewell to a leader who inspired millions.

For those who may want to attend, Pope Francis will be buried on Saturday, April 26th, 2025, in Rome.

His funeral will take place at 10:00 AM local time in St. Peter’s Square in Rome, followed by his burial at the Basilica of St. Mary Major, as per his personal wishes.
