Sex workers in Kano have urged the organizers of the nationwide hunger protests to initiate discussions with the Federal Government.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), they expressed that the last week protests in Nigeria have severely disrupted socio-economic activities, leaving them without clients and struggling to make ends meet.

Monica James, who works on France Road, for example, emphasized that dialogue is essential to resolve the issues raised by the protesters. “I haven’t eaten in two days because of the curfew; our clients are nowhere to be found,” she stated.

She called on the organizers to pause their protests and engage in negotiations with the government to bring an end to the demonstrations.

Deborah Iliya, a sex worker on Yoruba Road, also echoed James’ concerns, describing the current situation as dire, as she has been unable to attract customers.

Hannatu Ibrahim from the Weather Head Area, join in, advocating for a return to normalcy.

Caroline James, who operates from a brothel on Enugu Street in Sabon Gari, noted that the influx of troublemakers and ensuing violence have disrupted their business.

She mentioned that she had clients willing to pay between N30,000 and N40,000, but they could not fulfill their appointments due to the prevailing tension and curfew.

Another sex worker, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that some of her colleagues have been compelled to share rooms due to the lack of customers during the protests last week.

She appealed to the authorities to ease the curfew, highlighting its detrimental effect on their ability to conduct business. Moses John, a bar attendant, informed NAN that the curfew has significantly affected business operations in Sabon Gari, with hotels and bars struggling to sell due to the absence of patrons.

Kenneth John, a vendor of Esi Ewu (goat head) on Aitken Road, lamented to NAN that the curfew has adversely impacted his business, noting that he has lost several goats due to power outages.
