The news as it trends.

In a recent update on February 17, 2025, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, addressed the concerns of Nigerians regarding the deportation list issued by the Trump administration.

During a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills Jr., she emphasized the need for fairness and humane treatment in the deportation process.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu highlighted that approximately 201 Nigerians are currently detained in U.S. immigration centers, with 85 already cleared for deportation.

She urged the U.S. to ensure that deportations are conducted with dignity and respect for human rights, allowing individuals ample time to settle their affairs.

The minister also expressed concerns about the potential suspension of the U.S. Drop Box Visa System, which has allowed Nigerians to renew visas without in-person interviews.

She called for clarity on this issue to ease the growing anxiety among Nigerians.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s update underscores the emotional and financial toll these deportations have on families in Nigeria, many of whom rely on remittances from relatives in the U.S. for survival and education.

Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu is a Nigerian politician, diplomat, lawyer, businesswoman, and former beauty pageant titleholder.

Born on August 5, 1968, she is the widow of the late Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

She currently serves as the Federal Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Nigeria.
