A Nigerian court has sentenced 12 Filipino nationals to one year in prison for their involvement in cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.

These individuals, part of a large cybercrime syndicate, included both foreign nationals and Nigerians.

They pleaded guilty to charges of identity theft and possession of fraudulent documents, having procured Nigerian youths to pose as foreign nationals to deceive victims for financial gain.

According to reports, the convicts operated fraudulent schemes across social media and messaging platforms, luring victims into fake cryptocurrency investments and romance scams.

Justice Yellin Bogoro sentenced each of them to one year in prison, along with a fine of ₦1,000,000, and ordered their mandatory repatriation to the Philippines upon completion of their sentences.

Their devices were also forfeited to the Nigerian government.
