The Nigerian World
The news as it trends.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is once again at the center of national attention.
She was recently arraigned on six counts of cyber defamation for allegedly accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello of plotting to assassinate her.
The charges stem from a televised interview and a fiery homecoming speech in April 2025, where she claimed the two men conspired to eliminate her politically and physically.
Natasha pleaded not guilty and was granted bail on self-recognition.
But the courtroom drama doesn’t end there.
Natasha is also suing Akpabio and the Nigerian Senate over her six-month suspension, which followed her public accusation that Akpabio sexually harassed her and tried to reassign her Senate seat without due process.
She has called the suspension unconstitutional and politically motivated. Judgment on that case is expected July 4, 2025.
Despite the suspension, Natasha remains a sitting senator and continues to trend across Nigeria’s blogosphere.
Her legal battles, bold accusations, and refusal to back down have turned her into a lightning rod in a male-dominated political landscape.
Critics argue she’s playing a dangerous game, while supporters see her as a symbol of resistance and accountability.
With another court hearing scheduled for September 22, 2025, the stakes are high – not just for Natasha, but for the future of political dissent, gender equity, and free speech in Nigeria.
Whether in court or on the Senate floor, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is not stepping aside quietly.
