Rapper and prison reform advocate Meek Mill has spoken out about the disturbing video footage showing prison inmate Robert Brooks being brutally beaten by correctional officers shortly before his death.
The bodycam footage, released to the public, captures the harrowing incident at Marcy Correctional Facility, where 13 guards assaulted Brooks while he was handcuffed in a medical room. Tragically, Brooks died a day later.
The official cause of Brooks’ death was determined to be “asphyxia due to compression of the neck.”
The circumstances leading to his presence in the medical room remain unclear.
Meek Mill, who has experienced incarceration himself and is now a vocal advocate for prison reform, expressed his outrage over the incident. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts, writing:
“I never fully watched this til today … this what it is for Black men in America if you get caught without them cameras around.
If you been to jail b4 you seen this with your own eyes!”
