The news as it trends.

Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, a former Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, has expressed his disapproval of Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, regarding her depiction of her upbringing in Nigeria.

Akinyemi accused Badenoch of making derogatory comments about Nigeria to further her political ambitions.

Badenoch has encountered criticism in Nigeria for her unfavorable remarks about her native country as well.

She characterized Nigeria as a socialist nation beset by corruption and insecurity, and she lamented the poverty she faced during her childhood in Lagos.

Recently, she intensified her controversial statements by asserting that Nigeria ruins lives and emphasizing her resolve to avert a similar outcome for Britain.

“And why does this matter so much to me? It’s because I know what it is like to have something and then to lose it,” she stated.

“I don’t want Britain to lose what it has. I grew up in a poor country and watched my relatively wealthy family become poorer and poorer, despite working harder and harder as their money disappeared with inflation.

“I returned to the UK at the age of 16 with my father’s last £100, hoping for a better life.

Thus, I have experienced the repercussions of ineffective governments that devastate lives, and I never want that to occur here.”

In response, Akinyemi countered her assertions, noting that her father was a professor at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and a medical doctor, and that she attended the international school at UNILAG.

Akinyemi contended that Badenoch’s comments represent a betrayal of her roots and cautioned that she would soon realize the consequences of disparaging her own people for political advantage.
