A couple narrowly escaped death when a container-laden truck fell on their car in Lagos.
The accident occurred on the evening of January 22, near the Toyota bus stop on the Apapa-Oshodi expressway.
The 20-feet container-laden truck crushed the rear of their Lexus Jeep, but remarkably, the couple emerged unscathed.
The couple, a male adult of about 45 years old and a female adult of about 37 years old, both names withheld, survived the ordeal.
Emergency responders, including sympathizers and firefighters, quickly arrived at the scene to rescue the couple from the wreckage.
Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, described the incident as a near-tragedy and praised the swift response of the emergency teams.
Following their rescue, the couple and the truck driver were sent for trauma therapy to ensure their physical and psychological well-being.
The wreckage was cleared from the highway by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), with the support of the Nigeria Police.
This incident highlights the urgent need for improved safety measures to prevent future occurrences of such accidents, which have become a frequent concern in Lagos.
