Governor Kathy Hochul’s FY 2026 budget prioritizes New York families with transformative initiatives.
The $256 billion plan includes expanded child tax credits, offering $1,000 for children under 4 and $500 for ages 4-16.
Families will benefit from free school meals, saving $1,600 per child annually, and inflation refund checks of up to $400 per family.
Additionally, $2.2 billion is allocated for childcare investments, ensuring access and affordability.
These measures aim to ease financial burdens, promote inclusivity, and strengthen the state’s economic future.
Kathy Hochul is the 57th Governor of New York and the first woman to hold this position.
Kathy is 66 years old, a mother of two, Will and Caitlin, and is married to Bill Hochul.
Kathy became governor on August 24, 2021, following the resignation of former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Hochul had previously served as Lieutenant Governor of New York from 2015 to 2021.
As the 2026 New York election approaches, Hochul has announced her intention to seek re-election, aiming for a second full term.
Her campaign focuses on affordability, public safety, and standing firm against federal policies she opposes, per media reports.
