The Nigerian Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, shared photos on his social media page showcasing the delegation’s presence at St. Peter’s Basilica.
Appointed by President Bola Tinubu, the delegation includes notable figures such as Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu and Archbishop Matthew Kukah.
The funeral, scheduled for today, Saturday, April 26, 2025, will bring global leaders together to honor the late pontiff.
Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. His cause of death was officially recorded as a stroke and irreversible heart failure, following a prolonged battle with respiratory ailments.
As the Nigerian delegation gathers in Rome to bid him farewell, the funeral signifies a new beginning for the Catholic Church in electing a new pope.
The conclave, where cardinals will gather to choose Pope Francis’ successor, is expected to convene in the coming weeks.
