Do you remember the story? It was trending during the time like wildfire.
Here’s what happened:
On January 18, 2025, Dajua Blanding, known publicly as Dank DeMoss, became embroiled in a discrimination controversy when a Lyft driver denied her a ride based on her weight.
The incident occurred as she requested a Lyft to attend a football watch party at her cousin’s residence.
Upon the driver’s arrival in a Mercedes-Benz sedan, he refused to allow her entry, citing concerns regarding her size and the vehicle’s capacity.
He subsequently locked the doors and drove away, leaving Blanding without transportation.
Blanding asserted that this incident constituted a violation of Michigan’s anti-discrimination laws, which recognize weight as a protected characteristic.
She claimed that the driver’s actions resulted in significant stress, humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional harm.
Although she did not specify a precise amount in her lawsuit, she sought damages for the emotional distress she endured.
The incident attracted considerable attention on social media, with many individuals expressing support for Blanding and denouncing the driver’s behavior.
Lyft reiterated its commitment to non-discrimination, stating that its terms of service prohibit any form of discriminatory practices.
However, on February 17, 2025, the lawsuit filed by Blanding against Lyft was dismissed, as the judge determined that the incident did not fulfill the legal requirements for discrimination under Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act.
It remains uncertain whether Lyft will implement a new policy for clients who may be facing challenges with weight management.
Dajua Blanding, also known by her stage name Dank DeMoss, is a Detroit-based rapper and influencer.
She is known for her weight, close to 500 pounds, and her claim against the Lyft company.
