The News as It Trends
As Lagos prepares for the 2027 gubernatorial race, political heavyweights are emerging. Among them are Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, and Femi Gbajabiamila, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and current Chief of Staff to the President.
Gbajabiamila’s legislative experience and Tinubu’s youthful appeal have sparked debates on leadership suitability.
The question remains whether Lagosians in 2027 will see more young leaders stepping forward to contest.
The governorship race in Lagos is expected to be fiercely contested, with stakeholders weighing factors like age, experience, economic policies, and—most significantly—the political influence shaping Lagos politics in a way that could reshape the race.
A major question in this election is who is best suited to address Lagos’ economic and security challenges—a topic widely discussed across Nigerian blogs, social media, and by political analysts on YouTube.
While 2027 is still a few years away, the contest for the governorship is expected to be one of the most intriguing political debates and competitions in Lagos, especially as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s tenure comes to an end under Nigeria’s constitutional provisions, having already served two terms.
Seyi Tinubu studied Law at the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom, where he earned his LL.B. degree. He later attended the American Intercontinental University in London for further studies.
Femi Gbajabiamila attended Igbobi College for his secondary education before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) degree. He later earned a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in the United States.
