The news as it trends.
Kenya’s President William Ruto has been labelled a con man.
This controversy has sparked widespread debate and criticism within the country.
The allegations stem from a manipulated video that falsely depicted former President Uhuru Kenyatta calling Ruto a “liar” and a “conman”.
The spat continued on a live session on social media after Kenya’s former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, openly declared him again, a liar and a con man during an interactive session.
The former deputy president accused Ruto of failing to deliver on his campaign promises.
Ruto did not let it go by firing back, specifically calling out Gachagua, accusing him of incompetence and a lack of direction.
According to Ruto, “There are people who are cons, who had big jobs and were unable to do them because of incompetence, tribalism, corruption, hatred, and lack of direction. Now they are giving us lectures.”
“Who are they lecturing?” Ruto retorted.
Adding to the political drama, President Ruto took a veiled jab at the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, during his speech.
Ruto implied that Gachagua had not fully understood the complexities of governance and praised his current deputy, Kithure Kindiki, for his better grasp of the role.
This subtle dig highlights the strained relationship between Ruto and Gachagua, further fueling the political tensions in Kenya.
The President further emphasized that leaders driven by selfish motives, corruption, and tribal politics have no place in Kenya.
“Leaders who don’t believe in the oneness of the country, who are driven by tribalism, corruption, hatred, and division, have no space here.
We will not allow them to divide the country along tribal lines because they have nothing to offer,” Ruto stated.
Rigathi Gachagua is a former Deputy President of Kenya. He served as the 12th Deputy President from September 13, 2022, until his impeachment on October 17, 2024.
