Nigeria – Politics.

The news as it trends.

Nigerian billionaire and elder statesman Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who passed away at the age of 93, is trending in the Nigerian blogosphere after Saudi Arabia granted his final wish—to be buried in Medina, Islam’s second holiest city.

Dantata had long expressed his desire to be laid to rest near the Prophet’s Mosque, Masjid an-Nabawi.

His request was honored, making him one of the few non-Saudis ever granted this rare privilege.

Medina, located in western Saudi Arabia, typically reserves burial for residents or those with special approval.

Dantata’s legacy as a philanthropist and business icon made this moment both symbolic and historic.

His burial beside his late wife, Rabi’a, who died in 2023, adds a deeply personal layer to this spiritual milestone.

He was married to two wives during his lifetime and is survived by 24 children.

Dantata began his career in the family business, Alhassan Dantata & Sons, and expanded into oil and gas, banking, real estate, agriculture, and manufacturing.

He founded Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd and co-founded Jaiz Bank, Nigeria’s first non-interest bank.

His influence spanned commerce, politics, and philanthropy, leaving a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s development.
