The journey of Nigerian high-life artist Chinedu Okoli, known as Flavour, is a remarkable testament to perseverance and growth in the music industry in Nigeria.

In a recent interview on the In My Opinion Podcast, Flavour reflected on his humble beginnings in Enugu, where he initially charged just N5000 for each beat before rising to fame.

His career began in a studio, where he played the piano for rapper Nigga Raw, and he dedicated himself to learning music production by investing N1000 in lessons from the rapper’s producer.

This commitment, according to him, allowed him to refine his craft and start producing his own beats, for which he initially set a modest fee.

Flavour expressed his appreciation for Nigga Raw’s mentorship, which was instrumental in shaping his understanding of artistry.

Although he initially considered pursuing RnB, he ultimately chose to embrace Highlife Fusion due to its commercial potential.

A pivotal moment in his career occurred when he received a call from the prominent music marketer Obaino Music, leading to his move from Enugu to Lagos, where he gained significant exposure and eventually achieved international recognition.

Today, Flavour is celebrated as one of Nigeria’s leading musicians, inspiring many aspiring artists with his incredible transformation from a struggling producer to a renowned music icon.

His revelation that he once charged N5000 per show has surprised many, especially considering his current worth of over $8 million according to Meltingpot Africa entertainment news and the high fees he commands for performances.
