The news as it trends.

A heartbreaking story has emerged of a Guatemalan woman who, while driving to Costco to buy food for her children, mistakenly ended up at an international bridge to Canada due to her phone’s GPS directions.

This wrong turn led to her detention by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in Detroit, where she and her two U.S.-born children were held for nearly a week.

Now, the woman faces removal proceedings in immigration court, sparking outrage and calls for accountability as she has been detained without due process.

This incident, like the case of Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University student who was also arrested without due process, highlights the harsh realities of immigration enforcement under Trump administration policies.

These policies have been widely criticized for their lack of transparency, respect for the rule of law, and disregard for due process.

Per media reports, Advocates, including U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib and the ACLU of Michigan, have demanded answers, pointing out that this case is not isolated.

Since January, media reports show over 200 people have been detained by various means, ranging from being kidnapped to strange phone texts that led them to Trump immigration detention.

Families like the Guatemalan woman’s are caught in a system that often disregards the human cost of rigid enforcement.

The implications of such policies are profound, especially in the context of the Trump administration’s controversial immigration stance, which prioritized strict border control measures with no room for court decisions or due process.

Critics argue that these policies have led to unnecessary detentions and deportations, often without proper legal procedures.

The case also draws parallels to the ongoing detention of individuals like Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University student who is still in custody without due process, despite a court order to have him transferred—a decision the Trump administration has refused to comply with.

This raises questions about the lack of respect for human rights, the rule of law, fairness, and due process.

The Guatemalan woman’s story, from Costco to Trump immigration ICE detention, serves as a stark reminder of the need to ensure that mistakes like a wrong turn do not result in life-altering consequences for families.

As the woman awaits her court date, advocates continue to push for justice and transparency in the treatment of migrants and their families.
