The news as it trends.

In a recent controversy, Facebook users have accused Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg of forcing their accounts to automatically follow President Donald Trump without their consent.

Users reported that their newsfeeds were suddenly filled with posts from Trump, leading to widespread frustration and anger.

According to reports, the issue arose shortly after President Trump was sworn in.

Many users claimed that their personal accounts automatically followed the new commander in chief, sparking allegations of manipulation by Facebook.

One user complained on Reddit, “Facebook made my profile auto-follow Trump,” while another user added, “Full dictatorship incoming.”

Meta has denied these allegations, stating that the follows were not intentional but rather a result of the presidential transition process.

Andy Stone, a spokesperson for Meta, explained that if users previously followed or liked the official accounts of Vice President Kamala Harris or President Joe Biden, those accounts were transferred to Trump and Vice President JD Vance as part of the transition.

This process is standard for presidential transitions on Facebook.

Despite Meta’s explanation, many users remain skeptical and have called for an investigation into the matter.

The incident has sparked a broader debate about the power and influence of social media platforms and their role in shaping public discourse.

The controversy comes amid a series of changes at Meta, including the end of its third-party fact-checking program and a shift in content moderation policies.

These changes have led to increased scrutiny and criticism of the company’s practices.

Facebook gossip and buzz have many wondering whether in the next election, such auto-following may have a considerable effect on the outcome, especially with Facebook dropping its fact-checking apparatus.

Some have also said it has become impossible to unfollow Trump even when they have not requested to follow him.
