Donald Trump’s Racist Policies & Cruelty Take a New Shape: Threatens to Cut Funds to Africa Over Land Expropriation.

The news as it trends.

President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will be investigating South Africa’s land expropriation policies.

Trump claims that the law passed in the South African Parliament over land expropriation policies constitutes a “massive human rights violation” and has pledged to cut off all future funding to South Africa until the investigation is completed.

Critics argue that Trump’s attempt to meddle in other countries’ affairs with racist policies may lead to an act of aggression, with America trying to exert its hegemony on foreign policy.

This could have significant legal implications and potentially harm the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

How Donald J. Trump intends to investigate land appropriation outside of the United States and passed by another state’s parliament that has become a law is yet to be seen.

Land appropriation in South Africa refers to the process by which the government acquires private property for public purposes or in the public interest.

This process is governed by the recently passed Expropriation Act 13 of 2024, which aims to address historical imbalances in land ownership between white and Black South Africans.

The Expropriation Act 13 of 2024 was passed by the South African Parliament with a vote count of 232 in favor and 78 against.

The new law allows for land expropriation without compensation in certain cases deemed to be in the public interest.

The primary goal is to ensure equitable land distribution and to correct the injustices of the colonial and apartheid eras.

The law sets out detailed procedures, rules, and regulations for expropriation, including how compensation is to be determined.

Alongside Donald Trump’s interference in South African policy was Elon Musk, who was born in South Africa, making the same claim.

On X, Musk commented on South Africa’s land expropriation policies, accusing South Africa of having “openly racist ownership laws” in response to a tweet by President Cyril Ramaphosa about the land appropriation law that has just been passed.

Based on its historical context, in South Africa, white South Africans are commonly referred to as “Afrikaners” or “Boers” if they are of Dutch, German, or French Huguenot descent.

Another term used is “English-speaking South Africans” for those of British descent.

It is worth noting that the population demographics in South Africa show that:

The white population is approximately 4.5 million, making up about 7.3% of the total population.

The black population is around 49.1 million, constituting about 81.4% of the total population.

Regarding land ownership:

Whites own about 72% of the total 37 million hectares of farms and agricultural holdings by individual landowners.

Blacks own only about 4% of the total farms and agricultural holdings.

The President of South Africa has, however, fired back in a news clip made public by African News Update, stating that the law on land expropriation passed by the South African Parliament stands.
