The news as it trends.
Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, former running mate to Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election, has declared that Obi should not accept a vice-presidential slot in 2027.
Speaking on Arise TV, Baba-Ahmed argued that Obi’s performance in 2023 — where he reportedly secured over 10 million votes — proves he deserves to lead, not play second fiddle.
He emphasized that the newly formed ADC coalition should consider Obi as a presidential candidate, not a deputy to Atiku Abubakar or Rotimi Amaechi.
Baba-Ahmed also dismissed the idea that only a coalition can defeat the APC, insisting that the real coalition must happen at the ballot box.
His comments have sparked debate about leadership roles within Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
