Timothy Ukpa, a rising gospel singer from Ebonyi State, Nigeria, has been arrested for orchestrating his own kidnapping in a shocking attempt to extort millions of naira.
Known by his stage name, Timothy Bliss, Ukpa reportedly planned the fake abduction with the help of his twin brothers and several accomplices.
The incident unfolded just days before the “MC Walter Family Hangout Show” in Abuja.
Ukpa disappeared after claiming he was going to purchase tickets for the event.
Shortly after, his family received a call from someone claiming to have kidnapped him, demanding a ransom of 20 million naira and threatening to kill him if the money wasn’t paid.
The situation escalated as Ukpa’s family involved a lawyer and reported the case to authorities.
However, suspicions arose when Ukpa’s uncle suggested he might be capable of fabricating the kidnapping.
Investigations revealed that Ukpa was staying at a local hotel in Abuja, and his twin brothers were in contact with him throughout the ordeal.
Police tracked Ukpa’s location and uncovered the staged nature of the kidnapping.
When confronted, Ukpa confessed to the scheme, admitting he had fled to Kaduna to hide before returning to Abuja.
The case has sparked outrage and disbelief, not only because he faked his own abduction, but also because he used social media posts to gain sympathy and funds to “help find him.”
This has become a source of heated online debate, with many Nigerians expressing shock and dismay at the lengths some individuals will go to for financial gain.
