The inaugural evening of the Democratic National Convention wrapped up late into the night, featuring a host of prominent figures from the Democratic Party, such as Hillary Clinton, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Jamie Raskin among others.
President Joe Biden, introduced by his daughter, delivered a powerful speech that emerged as one of his most significant addresses according to observers.
In nearly an hour, he passionately outlined the threats to American democracy and Trump’s candidacy, delivering a strong condemnation that resonated with the audience.
In his address, it was clear that Biden was frustrated by Trump’s previous policies, particularly his affinity for authoritarian leaders which he argued weakens U.S. alliances and diminishes the nation’s global standing.
He also condemned Trump’s efforts in using other members of the Republican party to block Senate legislation aimed at implementing stricter border security measures.
He emphasized the critical need for a collective effort to defeat Trump in the forthcoming election.
During his 50-minute speech, he not only celebrated the accomplishments of his administration in vital areas such as infrastructure and climate change but also recognized the significant contributions of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Despite the late hour, the audience remained enthusiastic, chanting, “Joe, We Love You,” while Biden confidently asserted that Trump would soon understand the pivotal role of women in the 2024 election.
Joe Biden also emphasized the vital role of a supportive Congress in safeguarding reproductive rights, highlighting the need for legislative backing in these challenging times.
Biden reiterated his commitment to addressing critical issues, including the safe return of hostages and the promotion of peace amid the ongoing Israel/Gaza conflicts.
The president expressed his steadfast support for Vice President Harris and her running mate, Tim Waltz, pledging to actively campaign & “volunteer” for Kamala’s success.
He stressed the importance of collective efforts to uphold the rule of law and protect civil liberties, while taking pride in his achievement of appointing the first Black woman to the Supreme Court.
The atmosphere at the Democratic National Convention was lively, with many attendees displaying enthusiasm for the party’s future direction.
As shown in the video below, alongside the convention, several groups assembled outside the DNC to express opposition to the war in Gaza, which Joe Biden acknowledged in his speech, emphasizing the need to bring the conflict to an end.
