After more than 15 months of inquiry, many in the Nigerian media and on social media are beginning to demand answers.

Questions linger over the investigation into allegations of fraud against former Nigerian Minister Betta Edu.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is probing claims of mismanaging ₦30 billion during her tenure as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.

A leaked memo revealed that Edu allegedly instructed ₦585 million to be transferred to a private account, sparking public outrage.

Others implicated include Sadiya Umar-Farouk, Edu’s predecessor, accused of mismanaging ₦37.1 billion, and Halima Shehu, former NSIPA coordinator, linked to ₦44 billion in suspicious transactions. Contractor James Okwete is also under scrutiny.

Despite recovering funds, the EFCC cites the complexity of the case as the reason for delays.

Many Nigerians on social media are questioning accountability and the lack of urgency in addressing such a high-profile corruption case.

The article and the inquiry about the case were originally reported by Daily Trust.

The allegations were first made public on the Nigerian blogosphere, prompting the EFCC to launch an investigation.
