Popular Nigerian artist Bella Shmurda took the stage at the Tension Rave event in Ibadan on January 3, 2025, and paid a poignant tribute to the late Mohbad.
The highlight of the evening was Bella Shmurda bringing Mohbad’s young son, Liam, on stage.
Holding him tenderly, Bella Shmurda performed some of Mohbad’s most beloved songs, moving the audience and honoring his friend’s memory.
Bella Shmurda, whose real name is Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who rose to prominence in 2019 with his hit song “Vision 2020.” Known for his Afrobeats, street pop, and Afro-fusion music styles, Bella Shmurda has gained a significant following.
He is also the leader of Dangbana Republik, a collective of creatives in Lagos.
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, was a rising Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter known for his unique blend of Afrobeats, street pop, and amapiano.
He gained popularity with hit songs like “Ponmo,” “Peace,” and “KPK (Ko Por Ke).”
Tragically, Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, due to complications from a Tetanus vaccine administered by an unlicensed nurse.
His death led to a social movement and an ongoing police investigation.
The tribute, which included powerful renditions of Mohbad’s hits, was met with an outpouring of emotions from the crowd.
The concert’s atmosphere was electrifying as fans from all over Nigeria joined in the tribute, singing along and paying their respects to Mohbad’s legacy.
Bella Shmurda’s heartfelt performance showcased not only his immense talent but also his deep respect and love for his late friend.
