The news as it trends.
In a stunning moment, Trump’s Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, officially met her match—not Harvard University itself, but its supporters and educators on social media.
McMahon faced public humiliation after sending a typo-ridden, grammatically flawed letter to Harvard.
Social media users—many of them affiliated with Harvard—responded by marking corrections in red ink, turning the letter into a public spectacle that has since gone viral, exposing the poorly written document.
Beyond the embarrassing errors, McMahon’s letter also included a controversial demand that Harvard abandon diversity efforts and return to strictly merit-based admissions and hiring.
Harvard forcefully rejected this demand, reaffirming that diversity strengthens academic excellence and that its admissions process is based on merit while ensuring equal opportunity for all students.
Critics slammed McMahon for her lack of professionalism and inability to understand the parameters of her job, arguing that no president or secretary of education should use their position to violate academic freedom—especially when doing so by threatening funding to schools, a power that only Congress has the authority to exercise.
The incident has raised serious questions about her qualifications for overseeing America’s education system.
McMahon, a former WWE executive, has no formal background in education.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in French from East Carolina University.
Her appointment was widely criticized, and this latest blunder has only fueled concerns about her competency in shaping national education policies.
