U.S Politics.

The news as it trends.

In what some critics are calling a calculated move to sway voters away from Democrats ahead of the midterm elections, Elon Musk has officially launched a new political party—the America Party—following a public fallout with President Trump over his controversial “Big Beautiful Bill.”

Musk, who once served as a top adviser in Trump’s administration, announced the new party on July 5 via X, declaring that Americans need “independence from the two-party system.”

He sharply criticized the bill’s $3.4 trillion debt burden and vowed to challenge both Republicans and Democrats.

Rather than competing nationwide, the America Party plans to focus on a handful of competitive Senate and House races, aiming to act as a swing bloc in Congress.

Musk has said the party will target two to three Senate seats and eight to ten House districts where it could influence the outcome.

While no official candidates have been named, some political observers have floated names like Rep. Thomas Massie and other libertarian-leaning figures.

However, nothing has been confirmed.

Though Musk hasn’t explicitly said he’ll self-finance the party, his track record of massive political donations—including over $277 million to Trump’s 2024 campaign—suggests he’ll be the primary backer.

While direct donations to a political party are capped under U.S. campaign finance laws at around $41,300 per year, Musk can legally fund a Super PAC that supports America Party candidates.

These PACs can raise and spend unlimited amounts as long as they don’t coordinate directly with candidates.

He can also spend unlimited personal funds on independent expenditures, such as ads or events promoting the party’s platform.

Despite this political pivot, Musk remains CEO of Tesla and SpaceX.

However, some advocates are now questioning whether the America Party is a genuine political movement—or simply a shambolic distraction designed to fracture the electorate and serve elite interests.

This skepticism has only intensified following recent allegations that Musk accessed sensitive U.S. data systems without proper authorization—raising serious ethical and privacy concerns.

Critics warn that such access could potentially be manipulated to benefit the very third-party political system he is now creating, especially as the midterm elections draw near.

Meanwhile, fallout from Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” continues, with reports that stimulus rebates have been blocked from reaching Musk-affiliated companies, deepening the rift between the two former allies.

The America Party has not yet registered with the Federal Election Commission and will face significant hurdles in gaining ballot access across all 50 states.

Musk has confirmed that the party’s first test will be the 2026 midterm elections, where it hopes to influence key races and potentially hold the balance of power in Congress.

With Musk’s growing influence over digital platforms, infrastructure, and now politics, many are asking: Is this a bold new vision—or a billionaire’s power play in disguise?
