Senegalese-American artist Akon has made a new revelation about his pivotal role in shaping the Afrobeats movement in Nigeria.

Speaking on the Bagfuel Brigade podcast, he shared how he spent years in Nigeria developing artists like Wizkid and P-Square, helping them break into international markets.

Akon emphasized that before his involvement, Nigerian artists focused only on creativity, lacking the business infrastructure needed for global success.

His contributions helped Afrobeats evolve into the worldwide phenomenon it is today, though he did not credit the entire movement to himself.

Akon, whose full name is Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam, is 52 years old.

According to his biography, he is married to Tomeka Akon and has five children.

Beyond his music career, Akon is also known for his philanthropic efforts, including Akon Lighting Africa, a project aimed at providing solar power to African communities.

Among African and American artists, his influence has extended beyond philanthropy.

By his own account, he said he actively worked to develop Nigerian artists, helping talents like Wizkid and P-Square gain international recognition.

Akon’s contributions, by many who know him, continue to shape Afrobeats, solidifying his status as a key figure in African music’s global rise.

His net worth is estimated at $80 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
