Unprecedented Power Grab? Trump Asks U.S. Supreme Court for Total Control of the Economy.

In the USA

The news as it trends.

In a bold legal maneuver, President Donald Trump is seeking sweeping control over the U.S. economy through a series of cases now heading to the Supreme Court.

While he hasn’t made a single public declaration demanding “total control,” the legal implications of his actions suggest exactly that.

His team is challenging long-standing limits on presidential authority in three key areas: tariffs, federal spending, and control over the Federal Reserve.

Trump wants the power to impose massive tariffs without congressional approval, claiming it could raise trillions in revenue.

He’s also asserting the right to refuse spending money already appropriated by Congress—a move historically deemed unconstitutional.

Most controversially, he’s attempting to fire a Federal Reserve governor, which would give him direct influence over monetary policy.

Legal experts warn that if the Supreme Court sides with Trump, it could fundamentally shift the balance of power between Congress and the presidency.

These cases, expected to be heard in November 2025, could redefine executive authority in ways not seen since the New Deal era.

The case has deeply unsettled constitutional scholars, many of whom view it as a radical and unprecedented attempt to dismantle the balance of power enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.

No president in American history has ever strategically sought to transfer congressional authority over national spending and economic policy to a single individual.

If successful, Trump’s legal strategy would grant him unilateral control over decisions that directly affect American lives—from inflation and food security to unemployment benefits and state funding.

This move strikes at the very foundation of monetary policy, which was intentionally designed to operate independently of political influence.

It also raises alarms about the role of the Supreme Court, particularly the five conservative justices whose interpretations of the law could redefine—not just apply—the limits of executive power.

Five Scenarios If Trump Gains This Power:

Defunding States That Oppose Him Trump could cut off federal funding to states governed by Democrats or those that challenge his policies—impacting healthcare, education, and disaster relief.

Eliminating Federal Programs Like SNAP or FAFSA Without congressional oversight, he could cancel or drastically reduce programs like food stamps, student aid, or housing assistance.

Redirecting Federal Money to Private Projects He could funnel public funds into private ventures or politically aligned corporations without legislative approval.

Manipulating Interest Rates via the Federal Reserve By firing Fed governors, Trump could pressure the Fed to lower interest rates before elections or raise them to punish economic dissent.

Blocking Unemployment Benefits Nationwide He could halt unemployment payments during economic downturns, leaving millions without a safety net—especially in states he deems “uncooperative.”
