Nigeria- USA – Diplomacy

The news as it trends. See the memo below.

The U.S. Department of State has clarified that its recent change in visa validity for Nigerian applicants has no connection to Nigeria’s BRICS participation or any political issue.

According to the official statement from U.S. Mission Nigeria, the decision is purely technical and part of a broader global review focused on reciprocity and security benchmarks.

Under the Trump administration, most nonimmigrant visas are now capped at single-entry and valid for three months — a change that has also been replicated in other African countries, including Ghana, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Angola.

This adjustment is intended to align international visa policies more fairly.

Despite speculation, the change reflects standard policy evolution, not diplomatic tension.
