The U.S. Department of State has announced a $65 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and two top-ranking officials.
Maduro, the current president of Venezuela, is accused of leading the Cartel de los Soles—a group the U.S. Treasury recently designated as a terrorist organization.
Despite his official status, the U.S. has long refused to recognize his presidency due to contested elections and alleged human rights violations.
The bounties break down as follows:
Nicolas Maduro: $25 million
Diosdado Cabello Rondon: $25 million
Vladimir Padrino Lopez: $15 million
All three face charges including narco-terrorism, drug trafficking, and weapons crimes.
U.S. officials claim the cartel smuggled massive quantities of narcotics into American territory, intensifying global condemnation and reigniting diplomatic tensions between Washington and Caracas.
