Singer and actress Teyana Taylor has been ordered to pay $70,000 in legal fees to her ex-husband, former NBA star Iman Shumpert, after being found in contempt of court.
The ruling stems from Taylor’s violation of their 2024 divorce agreement, which prohibited either party from publicly discussing the settlement.
In March, Taylor posted an Instagram video referencing the divorce, prompting Shumpert to file a motion.
The judge sided with Shumpert, ruling that Taylor breached the agreement and failed to provide evidence for her own claims against him.
Her request for Shumpert to cover her legal fees was denied.
The couple, who share two daughters, have been locked in a contentious legal battle since Taylor filed for divorce in 2023.
While the court’s decision was clear, public reaction has been anything but. On social media, many—particularly women—expressed sympathy for Taylor, suggesting emotional distress may have driven her to speak out.
Some commenters speculated that if her experience involved abuse, her breach might reflect deeper pain.
The court, however, maintained its stance on the legal boundaries of the agreement.
