The Nigerian world.

The news as it trends.

Omoyele Sowore, publisher of the Sahara Reporters blog and a media personality, has reportedly filed a petition with the Florida Attorney General’s office, urging an investigation into alleged mortgage fraud linked to Nigerian politician Nyesom Wike.

The petition, according to sources close to Sahara Reporters, accuses Wike of using illicit government funds to purchase property in Florida under the names of family members, raising serious questions about asset concealment and financial misconduct.

Sowore’s move comes amid growing scrutiny of Wike’s wealth and foreign holdings, especially following revelations that an alleged $2 million Florida mansion was acquired entirely in cash, with no mortgage trail.

Critics argue that such a transaction is suspicious given Wike’s public salary and official role in Nigeria.

The petition reportedly calls for U.S. authorities to examine whether the funds used in the purchase violated international anti-money laundering laws and whether Wike’s actions constitute mortgage fraud under Florida statutes.

While the Florida AG has yet to publicly respond, the petition has ignited debate across Nigerian and diaspora media, with many praising Sowore’s boldness in challenging entrenched political elites—while others in Wike’s corner express mixed feelings.

If proven true, the case could have far-reaching implications for cross-border accountability and the exposure of hidden assets.

Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is a prominent Nigerian politician and lawyer, currently serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) since 2023.

Before that, he was the Governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023.
