In the USA.
The news as it trends.
Rapper Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was taken into custody early Sunday morning, August 3, following a traffic stop in Los Angeles—just hours after celebrating his 35th birthday at a high-profile nightclub.
LAPD reports say he was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over near Melrose and Genesee, where officers discovered a firearm. He was booked for suspicion of being a felon in possession of a weapon.
This isn’t his first brush with the law.
The arrest adds to a string of legal troubles, including a $4 million judgment from a recent civil assault case.
The timing couldn’t be more dramatic, as Soulja had premiered new music that same day.
Widely known for his 2007 mega-hit “Crank That,” Soulja Boy built a career blending viral fame with music entrepreneurship.
He’s reported to have a net worth of approximately $30 million, with ventures in gaming and fashion.
He is also a father and occasionally shares glimpses of his son on social media.
Once again, the spotlight shifts from celebration to controversy.
