Crime & Punishment.
The news as it trends.
In an unlimited barrage of name-calling, harassment, and defamation, the table has finally turned.
In a landmark ruling, Nigerian woman Cynthia Chia has been fined £25,000 by a UK High Court for falsely accusing Dubai-based businessman Idowu Ogunkanmi of rape.
The case centers around a consensual one-night encounter in 2015 at the Hilton Hotel in Paddington — an event the court confirmed involved no assault or coercion.
On July 10, 2025, Judge Susie Alegre declared the rape allegations “malicious” and “completely false,” emphasizing that the brief interaction did not justify Chia’s nine-year campaign of online harassment.
According to court documents shared across media outlets, Ogunkanmi met Chia through a mutual friend at a nightclub.
They spent less than 12 hours together, after which Chia launched a public barrage of unfounded claims including rape, bribery, and child abuse.
Despite multiple warnings and arrests, she continued spreading defamatory content across platforms.
Ogunkanmi, a father of three, described the ordeal as a shakedown, deeply traumatizing, and emotionally exhausting.
Experts say the case is a wake-up call for digital accountability — underscoring that ignorance of the law is no excuse when defaming someone over events that never occurred.
