The Nigerian world – Politics.
The news as it trends. Seethe video below.
A viral video shows former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello ordering newly elected House of Assembly members to sit on the floor during a meeting, demanding full obedience to Governor Usman Ododo’s directives.
The clip has now gone viral.
In the footage, Bello can be seen holding his ear in a symbolic gesture, signaling lawmakers to demonstrate total loyalty and obedience.
The lawmakers, including Hon. Hassan Shado, were reportedly told to show complete loyalty to every motion in the Assembly.
Critics argue that this undermines democratic principles and reduces elected officials to mere rubber stamps.
While Bello framed the act as a show of party unity and discipline, many Nigerians view it as authoritarian overreach—especially coming from a governor who is no longer in office.
The symbolism of lawmakers sitting on the floor has ignited debate about political power, respect, and the role of legislators in a democracy.
