The news as it trends.
Renowned Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent Anas Al-Sharif, 28, was killed in an Israeli airstrike near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza.
The attack claimed the lives of five Al Jazeera staff members, marking one of the deadliest incidents involving media personnel in the region this year.
Al-Sharif had been reporting live from Gaza, documenting the escalating bombardment. His death has sparked international outrage and renewed calls for press protection in conflict zones.
He is survived by his wife, Bayan Khalid, and their two young children, Sham and Salah, who lived with him in the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza.
A poignant video circulating online shows Sham telling her father, “I want to stay [in Gaza],” to which he proudly replied, “We’re not leaving.”
The strike follows a separate deadly attack on the Al-Baqa Cafe, a popular gathering spot for journalists, which killed 39 civilians.
Global media organizations are mourning the loss of a fearless voice committed to frontline reporting, and tributes continue to pour in for a journalist who gave everything to tell the story of his people.
