Authorities have identified 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford, a former U.S. Marine, as the gunman behind a deadly attack on a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan.

Sanford, wearing a “Trump 2020” shirt and driving a truck adorned with two American flags, rammed his vehicle into the church building during Sunday worship services.

Inside were hundreds of congregants, including children.

He then opened fire with an assault rifle, killing four people and injuring at least eight others. One victim remains in critical condition.

After the shooting, Sanford set the building ablaze using gasoline as an accelerant. Explosive devices were also found at the scene.

He was shot and killed by police in the church parking lot.

The FBI is investigating the incident as a targeted act of violence.

While the motive remains unclear, the attack has deeply shaken faith communities across the country.

Officials warn there may be additional victims still unaccounted for in the burned remains of the church.
