Peter Obi vs. Deji Adeyanju: A Defamation Showdown “No Retraction for You—Meet Me in Court,” Deji Says.

In the USA.

The news as it trends.

A political storm is brewing between former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and social media personality and lawyer Deji Adeyanju.

On August 26, 2025, Obi, through his legal counsel Chief Alex Ejesieme (SAN), issued a formal demand for Adeyanju to retract a series of social media posts accusing him of corruption, religious bigotry, and manipulation.

The letter described the claims as “false, malicious, and contrived,” and demanded deletion of the posts, public apologies across social media, and publication in three national newspapers.

Adeyanju, however, refused to comply.

In a fiery Facebook response, he labeled Obi “a fraud parading himself as a messiah” and “a religious bigot,” dismissing the legal threat with the bold challenge: “Meet me in court.”

He also referenced a separate dispute involving his wife, accusing Obi of shielding his supporters from accountability.

The clash has sparked intense debate online, with supporters on both sides weighing in.

While Obi’s team insists the accusations are baseless, Adeyanju’s claims echo long-standing criticisms.

Obi was impeached during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State—though the impeachment was later overturned by the courts.

Allegations of diverting public funds have circulated in Nigerian media, but no convictions followed.

Internationally, Obi’s name appeared in the Pandora Papers for holding offshore accounts, which he defended as legal and unrelated to public funds, as alleged.

On the issue of bigotry, critics argue that Obi’s political messaging has leaned heavily on regional and religious identity, particularly in the Southeast.

While some view this as strategic campaigning, others—like Adeyanju—see it as exclusionary.

As the deadline for compliance looms, the question remains: will Obi take legal action, or will Adeyanju’s defiance hold firm?

This showdown is far from over—and its outcome could shape public perception of both men for years to come.
